Interim Principal

A Note from our Principal

July 12, 2022

Dear ILS Parents and Students,

Greetings in the name of the living Christ!  I hope this finds you enjoying the summer break.

As you may have heard, I will be serving as the interim principal for the 2022-23 school year. I come to Immanuel with 40+ years’ experience in Lutheran and Christian schools, the last 27 as principal, executive director, or head of school. I am a product of Lutheran schools: a graduate of Concordia Lutheran School, Rockford Lutheran High School, and what is now Concordia University Chicago.

My wife and I moved to Albuquerque in May, intent on living the life of a retiree, but God had other plans. I have two adult children and two grandchildren, who all live in Kansas City. I love golf, the Chicago Bears, and the Seattle Storm.

It doesn’t take long to be impressed with Immanuel. No school lasts this long without teachers, staff and administrators whose passion for students is driven by their love for Jesus. The commitment of the congregation and the school board to support this ministry is unwavering. The engagement of our parent community is impressive. While the challenges of being an urban Lutheran school remain, the core strengths of our school are a great foundation on which to build as we near the start of our second century.

The 2022-23 school year will operate under the theme Equipped. It is based on Ephesians 6:10-11: “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might.  Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.  I hope you will prayerfully consider what your role will be in equipping our students for a world increasingly hostile to the message of the Gospel.

I look forward to meeting more members of the ILS community in the coming weeks. I am generally in the office from 8-4, so stop by if you are in the neighborhood. I can also be reached at principal@immanuelabq.org.
