History of Immanuel Lutheran School
Ø Immanuel Lutheran School has served as a mission arm of Immanuel Lutheran Church since 1924. Beginning as a one-room school comprised of grades one through eight, the school was housed in the rear portions of a house directly south of the church.
Ø In 1934, Immanuel Lutheran School was transferred to a new building with two classrooms.
Ø In 1944, a third classroom was added, again utilizing the original classroom first used in 1924.
Ø From 1951 to 1952, a fourth classroom was attached as an addition to the existing school.
Ø On November 2, 1958, an additional new school building was dedicated.
Ø In 1966, this school building was enlarged, and a new gymnasium was added.
Ø Since that time, numerous improvements have been made. The kindergarten was reopened, and in 1986, an extended care program was implemented and carpet and air conditioning were completely installed.
Ø A courtyard with a gazebo was added in 1997. The present facility includes nine classrooms, a music room, a computer science lab, a library, a gymnasium/auditorium, kitchen facilities, an enclosed playground, offices, and a work area.
Ø A significant renovation project in 2002 gave the school building needed improvements. A preschool program for four-year-old was started in 2002.
Ø In 2005, a new building consisting of a kindergarten and preschool classroom, as well as a new church fellowship hall and church offices, was constructed.
Ø In 2007, ILS was named a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence, one of only 50 private schools nationwide to receive this award. ILS was selected for this award based on the school’s achievement test scores (ITBS) being in the top 10% in the nation.
Ø During the 2023-2024 school year, ILS celebrated its 100th school year.
