February 16-19

        Wallschlaeger Weekly

Dear First Grade Parents,                                                    Feb. 16, 2021

As I mentioned in my last letter, I would like the First Graders to make musical instruments and bring them to class. These instruments do not have to be elaborate, expensive or time consuming. The only requirement

is that they do need to make a sound. We will be using them for rhythm activities during Music class this coming Friday.

Have your child gather discarded items from around the house like paper towel rolls, plastic bottles, empty cereal containers, paper plates etc.  Then have them use their imagination to create a rhythm instrument that will make an interesting sound.  We will use the instruments in music class this Friday.  Please have your child keep their instrument home until the 19th.

This week in Social Studies we will be studying a little bit about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, the two Presidents that we honor on President’s Day. In Bible Class, we are starting a new book with stories of Jesus’ miracles, and in Spelling this week we have spelling words that contain the long a sound.  The long a can be spelled ai or ay.  To make it easier to remember, remind your child as they study that the ai spelling goes in the middle of a word and the ay spelling will be at the end of the word.

I want to thank all of the parents who donated items for the First Grade Auction basket. We have lots of nice gifts to go in the basket.  If you are planning on donating and haven’t yet, please bring it in by this coming Friday. I need enough time to get the basket ready for the auction.

I hope you have a great week.  Stay warm!
