Dear First Grade Parents, Feb. 8, 2021
This is Life Education Week where First Graders study where babies come from. Below is a short assignment to fill out so each child can share information for when they were a baby. I will also be sending a hard copy of the assignment home with your child in case you don’t have a printer to print out the assignment. Students will read their reports on Wednesday and share their baby photos that day.
Feb. 12th is our Valentine’s Party. Students will be exchanging Valentine cards and playing games on that day. The students will also get to hear the story of Saint Valentine. In order to help you with Valentine cards, I have listed the names of students at the bottom of the parent letter to help you fill out cards. Some students like to put the names of each student on the cards and some just put from, and their name on the card. Remember you don’t need to make a Valentine box to hold the cards. We will be decorating sacks in art this week.
I would like to have the First Graders make musical instruments and bring them into class. These instruments do not have to be elaborate, expensive or time consuming. I want the students to make them (not parents). The only requirement is that they do need to make a sound. We will be using them for rhythm activities during Music class.
Have your child gather discarded items from around the house like paper towel rolls, plastic bottles, empty cereal containers, paper plates etc. Then have them use their imagination to create a rhythm instrument that will make an interesting sound. We will use the instruments in music class to create a praise band. Please have your child bring their instruments to school by next Friday, Feb. 19th. Please have your child keep their instrument home until the 19th. Students get excited and want to play them at random times during the day.
Since it is a short week, there is only 1 Memory and no new Spelling
Words this week. See you at conferences! Sincerely,
