November and December Girl Scout Notes

admin : November 18, 2013 3:45 am : Girl Scouts

Troop 10272 Families:
We had a great meeting on 11/16!  The girls planned the remainder of the calendar year and started their digital photography patch.  Please see the hard copy of patch requirements that Michelle T. Sent home.  Thanks again to Michelle, our resident photographer!

Saturday, 11/23:  Petroglyph Outing ( weather permitting:)
This outing is for registered Girl Scout members only. We have a scheduled tour at 1 pm.  Please meet at school at 12:20 to carpool/drop off girls.  You can also meet at Boca Negra Canyon at 12:55 if you don’t want to meet at school.  If you plan on driving anyone other than your own daughter, please provide us with a copy of your most recent drivers license and insurance info. The tour will be one hour long and then we will have about an hour to explore on our own.   I estimate we will return to school around 3:15pm.  The girls need to bring weather appropriate clothing, closed toed hiking shoes, and a full water bottle.  Drivers will need to pay $2 for parking…but I will be glad to help out with that if needed. You can learn more information about the Petroglyphs, the trails, and parking at the  Just search for Boca Negra Canyon Trails.  Here are basic directions:  Take Coors to Montano and turn west on Montano.  Take Montano to Unser then turn right (north).  Follow the signs to Boca Negra Canyon about 1/4 mile.

Saturday, December 14: Christmas Party 1-3pm in third grade
Theme: Tropical Christmas – Girls can dress up in tropical clothing if they want!  All food will be provided for this party!
Service Project (Give 3 opportunity): After speaking to the people at Joy Junction, the girls want to donate an item that has been requested.  These items include socks, underwear, winter clothing, coats, and toys for the children of Joy Junction.  The girls only need to bring one of these items, unwrapped, but they can choose to bring more.  There was even a discussion about the girls giving up some of their own Christmas presents and donating more to Joy Junction.  The girls also voted to spend $200 of troop funds to buy new toys for the children.  We have moms shopping for those items over Thanksgiving break!
Secret Santa:  Bring a wrapped toy for a girl in the troop.  The limit is $10.  Please don’t write the giver’s name on the present.  The girls love guessing who gave them their present.  The girls each randomly chose a name for this exchange.  I have the Secret Santa list  in a secret spot if someone forgets who they chose.  :)

Friday, December 20 : Family outing to the River of Lights @ 6:30pm.
The girls want to meet at the Biopark at 6:30 to enjoy the River of Lights.  This is a family troop event and all are welcome!  Info on parking and admission prices can be found at

Have a great remainder of November!  Feel free to call me or email if you have any questions!

Girl Scout November News

Troop 10272 Families:
What a great Juliette Birthday Celebration and costume party!  The girls had fun sculpting, learning about Juliette, dancing, crafting, and eating too much sugar!  Thanks to Michelle T. for being in charge of the craft!  We also want to thank all the moms who came to help set up, chaperone, and clean up.  Our troop definitely runs because of our team effort.  We had a fabulous party, but the girls also did some planning for November.  They have great ideas!

We will have two troop activities for November:
11/16 from 1-3:30 at school:
The girls will work on and hopefully complete their photography badge on 11/16.  The girls requested that we do this badge so they are very excited!  Since I have neglected to make a snack calendar, could we have a volunteer to bring the snack?  Please let me know if you are interested.  I am not yet sure if the girls need to bring anything to help complete this badge, but I’ll let you know when I know.

11/23 from 1-3 at Petroglyphs National Monument:
We have a scheduled tour (Ranger Allison) for our troop at 1:00pm at the Boca Negra Canyon.  The tour will be one hour long and will include two hikes.  We will spend the second hour on our own hiking and exploring.  Lets plan on meeting at school at 12:20 to carpool.  I will have maps/directions for drivers.  All drivers who are willing to take anyone other than their own daughter will need to provide a copy of their current license and insurance. All parents who are registered Girl Scouts are welcome to join us on this outing.  We will return to school about 3:15 for pick up.  The girls should dress according to weather with closed toed shoes and bring a full water bottle.  More info when it gets closer.

Give 3 for November:
The troop has decided to collect Thanksgiving food items(non-perishable) for the ILC Thanksgiving food baskets.  If your daughter would like to be a part of this Give 3, please bring three or more items to our 11/16 meeting.  Thank you!

Girl Scout Update

admin : October 4, 2013 11:47 pm : Girl Scouts

Hello Troop 10272 Parents,

Here is just a quick reminder of our planned activities for October/November:

October 12 (10am – 2pm): Scouting Family Day at the Anderson Abruzzo International Balloon Museum. This is a public event where girls and their families can learn more about ballooning and our wonderful Balloon Fiesta.  Girl Scouts get in free if they wear their vest/sash.  By attending this event, the girls will fulfill most of their requirements for the Balloon Fiesta Patch.  We will complete the remaining requirements at an upcoming meeting.  This is a family event so you can choose to attend anytime between 10-2pm.  I already know some of you are planning to attend near 10am, and my family will be there at around 1pm.  Hope you can make it!

October 26 (1pm-3:30):  Meet at school for a Juliette Lower Birthday/Halloween/Fall Fun Troop 10272 party!  The girls will be celebrating Fall and Juliette Lowe’s bday with a fun celebration!  The girls may dress up in costumes and should bring treats/snacks to share. Count on 15 girls.  We will play some games and have a short business meeting as well.  Do you have a fun game you would like to lead?  Let us know!

November 16 (1 pm – 3:30):  Meet at school to work on our Photography Badge.  Thanks to Michelle Thomas (a fantastic photographer!)  for helping us coordinate this!

November Outing (TBA)

(Note:  As you can tell, our second Saturday of each month meeting is not necessarily working out each month.  We will try to stick to that schedule after November.  I apologize for these changes!

Do you have a great idea for a field trip/outing for our troop?  Please email me at if you have some great ideas!  Thank you!

Bronze Award News:
Several of our girls are interested in earning their Bronze Award this year.  We are looking for a registered parent of a Fifth Grade Junior to coordinate this award.  Duties would include coordinating/running meetings and communicating with the council and parents. Please let us know if you would like to coordinate this worthwhile community service award.  Thank you!

Girl Scout News and Updates

admin : August 21, 2013 8:35 pm : Girl Scouts

Attention First, Second, and Third Grade Girls:

We may have a new troop just for you!  A parent from our school is beginning the process of training to be a Girl Scout Leader.  Please stay tuned for information on this new troop!

Troop 10272 Fourth and Fifth Grade Girls:

Welcome to the 2013-2014 Girl Scout Year!  We are hoping many of our Girl Scouts will return for a year of fun challenges and new experiences!

Reminder:  You must re-register your Girl Scout every year.  Please register at before our first meeting.   It is important that all adults who plan to be involved in Girl Scouts also register and complete the necessary back ground checks, etc.  You can start that process through the website as well.  Please let us know if you need help with registration.  We don’t want any girl to miss out on being a Girl Scout, so please let us know if we can help.

First Meeting:  Our first meeting will be on Saturday, September 14th from 1-3:30 in the third grade classroom.  We will plan our first “outing adventure” as well as make some goals for this year.  We will also bring a Junior Guide Book for the girls to look through so that we can decide which  patches/badges to focus on this year.  If your daughter has one of these Junior Guide Books, please plan on bringing it.  We will have one meeting every month (second Saturday) and one outing every month (TBA monthly).

Uniforms:  As always, uniforms are optional and can be purchased at La Tienda or over the internet.  Most of the girls really like their sashes/vests and use them as a “scrapbook” of activities they have done in the past.  Congratulations to our girls who were awarded free books and uniforms through the Opportunity Fund!

Bronze Awards:  Second year Juniors who have competed a Journey are now eligible to plan and engage in an individual Bronze Award.  These awards are long term service projects that make a difference in our community and world.  There will be separate training meetings for any girl who wants to compete a Bronze Award.  We will get the troop more info on this as we receive it.

Finally, please let us know if your daughter can’t participate this year.  We know schedules are filling up fast with new opportunities at school and throughout the community.  If your daughter can’t participate this year, please email us so that we can get a rough idea of who will be a part of Troop 10272 this year.  Thanks so much!
