We have had many great good-byes throughout history both in real life and in the theater. We have the parting of Marc Anthony and Cleopatra, Caesar’s “Et tu Brute”, General McArthur’s “I shall return.” In film, we have Romeo and Juliet’s, “Parting is such sweet sorrow,” as well as the farewell between Rick and Elsa in Casa Blanca, and Arnold’s “I’ll be back in.” in Terminator.
But there is none more poignant and important to us as Christians than Jesus’ farewell to the disciples as He prepared to ascend into Heaven. He told His disciples that he was going to prepare a place for them and He would ask His Father to send the Holy Spirit to give them the strength to go into the world and preach the Good News of salvation. That promise was not only to the disciples but to us as well. He has not left us but is by our side at all times. This is a comforting message to all Christians, but especially to our 8th grade students who graduated Thursday and will soon be going out into the fields as they move on to high school. We pray that the Holy Spirit would continue to help them grow in faith and live a life in Christ in a non-Christian world. We pray also for our ILS families who will not be returning next year, that they will continue to grow in faith and love for Christ.
May the Lord grant all our ILS families a safe and blessed summer!
